IDMyFish: Offline Fish ID
by Verona Solutions
Point at a fish,
get an honest answer.
Take a photo of your catch and IDMyFish shows the most likely species, how confident it is, and the marks that separate it from its look-alikes — so you decide. Everything runs on the phone: offshore, on the flats, up a river with no signal.

What’s included
Honest, not confident
If the app is not sure, it says so rather than guessing.
- 866 species, worldwide — saltwater and freshwater, from the Gulf and the Atlantic coast to the Pacific, Europe and Australia: tunas, snappers, groupers, mackerels, jacks, drums, sharks, bass, trout, salmon, catfish, carp and more.
- Up to three possibilities — each with its confidence, never a single verdict. If several fish are in the photo, you tap the one you mean.
- Look-alikes shown together — gag and black grouper, permit and pompano, blacktip and spinner shark — with the marks that separate them.
- Full-colour illustrations — nearly 200 Atlantic and Gulf species carry a Duane Raver Jr. illustration with distinguishing features, similar species, where found and typical size.
- Reference links — one tap to iNaturalist, Wikipedia or FishBase for any species, when you do have a connection.
- Works where you fish — recognition runs on the phone, so it behaves exactly the same with the radio off.
- Private by construction — photos are never uploaded; no account, no ads, no analytics.
- ID history — keep the fish you confirm: a thumbnail, the species, the date and your own note, stored only on your phone.
- Free, then one purchase — three identifications a day are free at full quality, forever. A single one-time purchase unlocks unlimited IDs and history. Nothing renews, ever.
Assistive, not authoritative. IDMyFish suggests possible matches, and it can be wrong. Never eat, handle or make a release decision based on this app alone — a misidentified fish can be dangerous to eat or protected by law. Always check your local regulations. Recognition models by Fishial.ai (MIT license); illustrations by Duane Raver Jr., used under license.
Know what you caught before you decide.
